FIFA World Cup 2026: Fake Ticket Scams, Fake Hotels and FIFA Phishing — How Not to Get Caught Out
⚠️ The 5 most widespread scams right now
Fraudsters sell counterfeit or duplicated tickets online through resale platforms or classified ad sites. Victims often discover the fraud when their tickets are rejected at the gate — thousands of miles from home. Tickets will only be available through the official FIFA app. Any other format — paper, PDF, screenshot — must be considered fraudulent.
Scammers advertise properties that don't exist or that they don't own. Victims are asked to pay a deposit or full payment before arriving. Once the money is sent, the "owner" vanishes.
Fraudsters exploit high demand by creating fake ticket sales sites, fake merchandise shops or phishing campaigns posing as official partners. These scams rely on urgency to push consumers into acting quickly. 36% of official sponsors don't yet actively block fraudulent emails impersonating their brand.
Fake accounts on Instagram, X (Twitter) and TikTok pose as official resellers, offering tickets at reduced prices. They request payment by bank transfer or PayPal, then disappear. No recourse possible.
Sites offer ticket + hotel + flight packages at attractive prices. These promising deals guarantee an "ultimate experience" but the key thing is actually getting into the stadium. Many of these packages include real flights and real hotels... with fake tickets.
✅ Golden rules to avoid getting caught out
- Only official source: FIFA.com/tickets — this is the only official source
- Any ticket purchased from sources other than FIFA.com/tickets is considered unofficial. Risks include fraud and invalid tickets.
- Tickets are digital only via the official FIFA app — never PDFs, never screenshots
- For resales: use only the official FIFA Resale Marketplace
- Any ticket sold on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, Gumtree
- URLs that look like FIFA but aren't exactly fifa.com
- Emails with ticket offers — FIFA does not contact you by email to sell tickets
- Sellers who ask for payment by bank transfer or PayPal Friends
- "Packages" sold by unknown agencies on social media
- The URL must start with https://www.fifa.com — check every letter
- A padlock 🔒 must appear in the address bar
- Always type the URL yourself — never click a link you receive
- The official FIFA app is available only from the App Store and Google Play Store
